The ACT government upgraded Canberra Stadium, but maintenance costs may nearly double to $9 million.

The ACT government says it's upgraded Canberra Stadium to extend its lifespan beyond the 2027 use-by-date listed in its own report.

But the cost of keeping the 48-year-old venue open is set to almost double the $9 million predicted over the current decade.

The news comes on the same day the Tasmanian government finally green-lit the controversial $1.13 billion stadium to be built in Hobart.
