Luckless Billy Walters has suffered a crushing setback with the in-form Broncos star set to undergo a full knee reconstruction.
This masthead can reveal Walters will require reconstructive surgery to repair the partial ACL tear that has ruled him out of Sunday's week preliminary final and cruelled his hopes of a premiership ring.
The 31-year-old injured his knee in last Sunday's epic 29-28 finals defeat of the Raiders in Canberra.
Walters was hoping the injury was not season ending, but after visiting a specialist on Wednesday, the popular utility is resigned to having the second knee reconstruction of his career.
He is set to have surgery in the coming weeks.
