Josh Papali'i's lawyer claims deleted police messages indicate evidence destruction in his case.

A barrister for Canberra Raider Josh Papali'i has argued that deleted messages in a police group chat amount to a "wicked set of circumstances" and the deliberate destruction of evidence.

Officers involved in an investigation using an encrypted messaging application "lands squarely in the territory of abuse from a conspicuous angle," defence barrister Steven Boland said on Thursday, September 25.

Papali'i was not present in the ACT Magistrates Court, where his lawyers argued for the case to be permanently stopped due to an alleged abuse of process.
