Top four remains in sight for Seibold despite turbulent Brookvale boil over

Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold remains optimistic despite a poor performance against the Knights and a rough season start.

    Zero Tackle

Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold remains confident in his side's ability to turn around a rough start to their 2026 campaign.

After a strong display against the reigning minor premiers in the Canberra Raiders last week, narrowly missing out in extra time, the Sea Eagles dished out a poor performance in front of a boisterous Brookvale crowd on Sunday afternoon.

It should have been a game they were up for; however, they failed to make a mark on a Newcastle Knights outfit that was without Kalyn Ponga and Dylan Brown for most of the match.

The Sea Eagles looked disinterested in attack and defensively inept as Newcastle made easy work of them, with millions of dollars of their salary cap sidelined.

  • Why rain forecast could be wheelie bad news for Raiders

    David Polkinghorne

Rain is forecast for Thursday, highlighting Canberra Stadium's aging issues as leaks prompt concerns about its future, with a potential end date of 2027.

    The Canberra Times

Rain is forecast for Thursday so the Canberra Raiders better pack their wet-weather gear.

And that's just for the sheds before and after the game.

The ageing state of Canberra Stadium has been thrust into the spotlight once again after the ACT Brumbies were forced to use wheelie bins to catch the leaking water in their change rooms during the storm about a week ago.

While ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has said the stadium will be fine for at least another decade, the fact there's water leaking into the sheds backs up a use-by date of 2027.

Halasima proves himself after late call up

The Warriors won 60-4 against the Raiders, with Leka Halasima excelling after a last-minute promotion due to injury.

    Zero Tackle

The New Zealand Warriors overcame a late pre-game injury and a string of disruptions during the match to deliver a dominant 60-4 victory over the Canberra Raiders on Friday afternoon, securing back-to-back home wins to start the season.

It marks just the fourth time in the club's history that they have won their opening two matches.

The standout performance came from 20-year-old second rower, Leka Halasima, who was given barely a minute's notice that he would be playing a full 80-minute role.

Originally named on the bench in jersey No.16, Halasima was suddenly promoted to the starting side after veteran forward Kurt Capewell suffered a calf injury in the warm-up. The young forward was tasked with stepping straight into the second row and responded with one of the best performances of his young career.
