The man whose name sits atop a leaky Canberra Stadium grandstand is keen for the federal government to take charge and create "something special" in a revived sporting precinct in Bruce.

Canberra Raiders legend Mal Meninga has weighed into the calls for Prime Minister Anthony Albanese to help fast-track the stalled stadium project in the capital.

The Meninga Stand is the main player, fan, corporate and hospitality section at Canberra Stadium, but it has been plagued by issues as the structure struggles to keep up with modern standards.

Meninga said he was not personally affronted by the leaking concrete or shattered glass in a stand bearing his name, but was passionate about the need for upgrades or a brand-new venue as part of an AIS revitalisation.
