Cronulla coach's odd decision to take penalty goal questioned after Raiders defeat in close match.
Questions are being asked as to why Cronulla coach Craig Fitzgibbon ordered Nicho Hynes to take a penalty goal when the Raiders only had 12 men on the field, rather than trying to score a try. Canberra pulled off a stunning 24-20 win over Cronulla on Thursday night, with Sebastian Kris scoring in the dying seconds to snatch victory.
The Sharks will be ruing their inability to score a try in the second half, especially while Hudson Young was in the sin-bin for 10 minutes. The Sharks had a golden opportunity to break the game open after Young was marched to the bin for a high shot.
But inexplicably, they opted to go for two points just two minutes into Young's sin-bin period, rather than tapping and applying more pressure. Hynes nailed the penalty goal, but the stoppage gave the Raiders a chance to reset and catch their breath.
