Canberra Raiders staged a comeback in golden point after controversial penalties impacted Melbourne's lead.

The Canberra Raiders have completed a sensational golden point comeback in controversial circumstances after Melbourne were cruelled by a number of costly penalties.

With five minutes left in regular time, the Storm led 18-12 and it looked like Ryan Papenhuyzen had slotted a field goal to put the result beyond doubt.

However, referee Gerard Sutton checked with the Bunker on Trent Loiero's contact with Raiders prop Joseph Tapine in the play the ball beforehand.
