NRL Early Mail round six: Brandon Smith set to return, Keaon Koloamatangi in doubt

Brandon Smith returns for the Rabbitohs, while Keaon Koloamatangi's fitness is uncertain for Saturday's match against the Raiders.

The Australian

Brandon Smith will play his first game of the season for the Rabbitohs on Saturday as the high-flying South Sydney sweat on the fitness of star prop Keaon Koloamatangi.

Smith will be named on Tuesday to play his first game this year having suffered a serious calf injury in the pre-season. The dummy half has played just five games for the Rabbitohs since making a mid-season switch from the Roosters last year.

He will fly to Perth with the rest of his South Sydney squad to take on the Raiders as South Sydney enjoy a strong start to the season with three wins from their opening four games including a Good Friday 32-24 win against the Bulldogs.

While Smith is all but certain to take his place in the 17, Koloamatangi will be in doubt after aggravating a knee injury in the opening exchanges on Friday.

Koloamatangi played on and reportedly was feeling good on Saturday morning but it remains uncertain if he will line-up against the Raiders. The injury is not expected to sideline him long-term - if at all - with the representative forward needing to manage the issue this year.
