Canberra Raiders prop Josh Papali'i will wait to fight criminal charges after his defence team raised an issue with the conduct of police officers involved in the case.

"It's been discovered in the last few days that the investigating police in the matter, one of whom is the complainant in the matter, have been communicating about the substance of the investigation on an encrypted application," defence barrister Steven Boland said on Monday, August 4.

Supported by senior members of the Raiders organisation, Papali'i, 33, faced the ACT Magistrates Court after denying intimidating police and failing to leave a licensed premises.
