Raiders star Morgan Smithies forced squash mouthguard theory after message bombardment

After a loss, Morgan Smithies faced backlash for not wearing a mouthguard after a high hit.

If losing a qualifying final like the Raiders did wasn't enough, Canberra's Morgan Smithies picked up his phone after the heartbreaking loss to Brisbane on Sunday and was bombarded with accusations he had lost his teeth.

The fiery Raiders forward was hit high by Pat Carrigan midway through the second half and while the Broncos lock was sent to the sin bin, Smithies was left with a bloodied mouth.

It was a flashpoint in an intense final that will go down as one of the greatest of all time.

In the frenzy of it all, many thought Smithies was a wild man for not wearing a mouthguard but the commentators got it wrong.
