In just a few weeks Raiders rising star Ethan Strange could go from coughing up blood in his sickbed, to making a Kangaroos debut, in what would easily be one of the more dramatic months of the young playmaker's career.

There were concerns Strange might be at risk of being poached by England or New Zealand in the international game due to his family's heritage, but the 21-year-old five-eighth put that theory to bed.

"Mum was born and raised in England, and grandma was born and raised in New Zealand so all my family members want me to play for different teams," Strange told The Canberra Times before a violent illness ruled him out of Canberra's semi-final against Cronulla.
