Wally Lewis has privately congratulated Ben Hunt on reviving the Broncos' season, but has warned Brisbane's halves they have a "madman'' on their tail.
Lewis revealed he recently sent a flattering text message to Hunt after Brisbane completed its fifth successive win in Adam Reynolds's absence, sealed by Hunt's deadlock-breaking field goal against Canberra.
Hunt has been playing halfback but is set to vacate the role for the return of Reynolds for Sunday's blockbusting preliminary final against Penrith at Suncorp Stadium. Hunt could switch to five-eighth or play some hooker depending on what the Broncos do with Ezra Mam but he is certain to be around the action and Lewis feels his experience will be invaluable against a Penrith side chasing its fifth successive premiership.
