‘We’re in safe hands’: Why Wighton won’t heed a Blues SOS call

After initially keeping it ajar, Jack Wighton has closed the door on the prospect of a State of Origin return for the Blues this year, declaring: They don't need me.

Wighton was sorely missed during the loss in the series opener in Adelaide, where he could have been an option at left centre or as a supersub from the interchange bench.

The Canberra star made the decision to retire from representative football earlier this year, only to hint at a possible return.

For now I am [retired from Origin] - it's a decision I've made, but what the future holds the future holds, Wighton said last month.
