It took the reigning premiers until the 70th minute to get past the Canberra Raiders - and even then it took a penalty try for the Newcastle Knights to get the win.
Raiders coach Darrin Borthwick felt his fullback Apii Nicholls was contesting the ball and was unlucky to have her opposite number Tamika Upton awarded the winning try.
