    IT was the day Canberra Raiders captain Mal Meninga blew the Brisbane Broncos away with a single word. Not even a traditional word, but a casual expression accompanied by a shivering motion.

    The year was 1994 and it was round 13 of what was then still known as the NSWRL competition. Canberra versus Brisbane at Bruce Stadium on the afternoon of Sunday, June 26.

    It was still the first month of winter, so generally speaking we weren't deep into the cold yet, but this is Canberra. It was cold - Canberra cold - and the rain was coming.
