The NRL has postponed its controversial kick-off rule trial to late 2026, opting for other changes this year, amid concerns about enhancing game balance.
The NRL has stepped back from introducing its controversial kick-off rule which divided the rugby league world.
Instead, the NRL will trial the rule towards the end of the 2026 season with games that no longer impact the finals race.
The NRL wanted to change the restarts from the team that had conceded taking the kick to the team who had scored, but the Australian Rugby League Commission has opted for a trial instead.
The commission did ratify a number of other changes, which will come into effect this year.
