  • Canberra Raiders: The Legacy of Green

The meaning behind the jersey: Canberra Raiders and the ACT

The Canberra Raiders, known as the Green Machine, sport green jerseys with blue and gold stripes.

    LeagueNews.co

Since their inception, the Canberra Raiders have been synonymous with their signature green color, which has become a hallmark of their home jersey. This affiliation has led fans and commentators alike to refer to the team as the Green Machine, a nickname that persists to this day.

In addition to the green, a distinct feature of their jerseys is the blue and gold stripe on the sleeves, symbolizing the traditional sporting colors of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT).

The first jersey worn by the Raiders upon entering the NSWRL in 1982 was the result of a design competition aimed at creating a uniform that would not conflict with those of other clubs. The chosen colors of green and white were inspired by Hall, the first rugby league team in the region.

Incorporating blue and gold stripes as part of the winning design ensured that they would become a crucial element in various versions of the Raiders' jerseys throughout the years.
