  • "Very keen": Ricky Stuart provides update on Coby Black

Coby Black quits the Broncos, set to join new club

Coby Black might join Canberra Raiders earlier than planned due to team needs and changes.

    Zero Tackle

The Canberra Raiders may welcome Coby Black to the nation's capital a year ahead of schedule.

Despite there originally being no chance of the move happening before the start of 2027 when Black has already signed with the Raiders, that situation has pivoted in recent days.

From Brisbane's point of view, Black is out of their long-term plans with Jonah Pezet to arrive in 2027, but in the short-term, Black still may be required with Adam Reynolds at times struggling to stay fit, and Ben Hunt also approaching the end of his career.

Hunt will also be used in the dummy half role at full strength, and it's something the club may not want to change if needed.

  • Canberra has enough league: Barr's 'brutally honest' defence for not fighting for RLWC games

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr explains why hosting Rugby League World Cup games isn't worthwhile for Canberra.

    The Canberra Times

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has revealed the government's "brutally honest" explanation for why it was not worth pushing to host Rugby League World Cup games in Canberra.

According to Barr there's already enough rugby league played in Canberra as it is with the Raiders, and there wouldn't be enough people attending the tournament to make it a worthwhile investment unless Australia, England and New Zealand were guaranteed to play.

The stance comes less than a month after Tonga and Samoa played in front of nearly 45,000 in Brisbane in a highly competitive Pacific Championships.
