  • Canberra has enough league: Barr's 'brutally honest' defence for not fighting for RLWC games

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr explains why hosting Rugby League World Cup games isn't worthwhile for Canberra.

    The Canberra Times

ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr has revealed the government's "brutally honest" explanation for why it was not worth pushing to host Rugby League World Cup games in Canberra.

According to Barr there's already enough rugby league played in Canberra as it is with the Raiders, and there wouldn't be enough people attending the tournament to make it a worthwhile investment unless Australia, England and New Zealand were guaranteed to play.

The stance comes less than a month after Tonga and Samoa played in front of nearly 45,000 in Brisbane in a highly competitive Pacific Championships.

  • Contract twist: Young Broncos prodigy linked with immediate exit

Coby Black quits the Broncos, set to join new club

Coby Black seeks immediate Broncos exit despite recent Raiders contract, potentially joining early for training.

    Zero Tackle

A fortnight after inking a two-year contract with the Canberra Raiders from the 2027 season, playmaking prodigy Coby Black has reportedly been linked with an immediate exit from the Brisbane Broncos.

Once earmarked as Adam Reynolds' future successor at the Broncos, the incumbent Under-19s Queensland Maroons captain could be set to leave the club he has been at since the age of 12.

Set to spend the next 12 months at Red Hill before moving to the nation's capital, reports from Code Sports have emerged that Black is pushing for an immediate release from the remainder of his contract and could potentially find himself at the Raiders as early as the club's pre-season training.

This comes three days after Raiders coach Ricky Stuart shut down speculation on the above and revealed that he was happy for Black to learn from seasoned veterans Adam Reynolds and Ben Hunt for another year.
