Eddie Jones aimed to recruit Xavier Savage to rugby union, confident in attracting NRL talent.
Eddie Jones has revealed he hatched a plan to lure Xavier Savage to rugby union, adamant the Canberra Raiders winger would be playing for the Wallabies if Jones was still calling the shots as Australian coach.
"Fortunately, Eddie's not coaching Australia," Canberra coach Ricky Stuart said.
Jones is confident he would have been able to lure both Savage and Dolphins halfback Isaiya Katoa to the Wallabies, having made clear his ambition to raid the NRL in search of top-tier talent after the code landed the prized signature of Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii.
