Chris Steel will become the ACT's sports minister after Chief Minister Andrew Barr unveiled a reshuffled cabinet.

Steel fills the void left by Yvette Berry, who announced her resignation after an investigation found her former chief of staff engaged in serious corrupt conduct.

Berry had been the ACT's Minister for Sport and Recreation since 2016, but a cabinet reshuffle will see Steel take over the sport portfolio while Rachel Stephen-Smith becomes Barr's deputy.

The quality of Canberra's sportsgrounds - which have been repeatedly targeted by brazen acts of vandalism - has been a major issue for the city's sporting bodies amid calls for improvement.
