North Queensland Cowboys stave off poaching raid to extend former Raider's son
North Queensland extends Kaiden Lahrs' contract until 2027, securing the talented forward amidst poaching threats.

North Queensland has successfully staved off a poaching raid on Australian Schoolboys prop Kaiden Lahrs, agreeing to a one-year extension to keep the promising 20-year-old forward in Townsville.
Lahrs will remain a Cowboy until at least the end of 2027 as he looks to add to his eight NRL appearances since making his debut against the Dolphins in 2025.
The young gun's signature will bolster North Queensland's ageing forward pack after versatile utility Sam McIntyre agreed to a two-year deal with the New Zealand Warriors from 2027.
The son of Canberra Raiders and Queensland icon Tom Learoyd-Lahrs battled a nightmare run of injuries after finishing high school as one of the country's top prospects, but has since found some continuity playing for the Townsville Blackhawks in the Queensland Cup.
Cowboys recruitment and list manager Clint Zammit said the club was delighted to put pen to paper.

The MRC has concluded Round 23 by issuing one suspension and four fines following the matches on Sunday.
Addin Fonua-Blake, a prop for the Cronulla Sharks, faces a one-game suspension after being charged with a Grade 2 Careless High Tackle on St George Illawarra Dragons' forward, Hamish Stewart.
Fonua-Blake received a sin bin penalty in the last 15 minutes of the Sharks' match against the Dragons, which enabled St George Illawarra's Setu Tu to score a late try, securing a 24-16 victory for his team.
If Fonua-Blake chooses to contest the charge at the judiciary and is found guilty, his suspension could extend to two matches.

An irate Ricky Stuart has blasted Corey Horsburgh's costly sin bin as a "fu***** brain explosion", blaming it for the loss to Newcastle.
Down by four points with less than ten minutes to go in the contest, the Canberra Raiders were given a golden opportunity to level the scores after referee Ashley Klein awarded a penalty against the Knights.
However, within a matter of seconds, the call was overturned after the Bunker reviewed the footage and it was deemed that Horsburgh struck Dane Gagai.
The decision not only sent the former Queensland Maroons representative to the sin bin - leaving the Raiders one man short - but it ultimately cost the club any hopes of reaching this year's finals series.
