Canberra Raiders open to early Hudson Young release with Matty Nicholson set to re-sign

The Raiders plan for life after Hudson Young by securing Matty Nicholson, eyeing him as a potential replacement.

The Australian

The Raiders have begun planning for life after Hudson Young with Canberra on the verge of re-signing key forward Matty Nicholson.

Nicholson is viewed within the Raiders as a leading candidate to replace Young, should the Test backrower accept a $1 million deal from the PNG Chiefs.

The 23-year-old is believed to have agreed to a new multi-year deal from 2028.

The emergence of Nicholson's new multi-year deal starting in 2028, follows Canberra head coach Ricky Stuart's confirmation that the club is open to releasing Young before next season.

The Raiders also have rising star Noah Martin in their ranks and are weighing-up whether to bank on Nicholson and Martin as their future backrow, or make a play for off-contract backrowers Liam Martin or Briton Nikora.
