  • 'Not disgruntled': Raiders dismiss 'innuendo' about star's future in Canberra ahead of NRL return

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart confirmed Matt Timoko is wanted until at least 2027, dismissing future speculation as he begins his first NRL start this season.

    The Canberra Times

Amid links to rival clubs, Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has dismissed doubts about Matt Timoko's future in the capital, and confirmed he's wanted for at least 2027, as the centre makes his first NRL start of the season.

Timoko will resume his spot on the edge for the Raiders' match against the Melbourne Storm on Friday night, after Savelio Tamale was dropped to NSW Cup and Sebastian Kris was pushed to the wing.

The round seven encounter will be Timoko's first start of 2026 after playing 20 minutes off the bench in round two's heavy loss to the Warriors.

The 26-year-old New Zealand international has struggled to regain his starting position at centre from Simi Sasagi, who came in after Timoko suffered a pre-season injury setback.

Kaeo Weekes supports teammate Savelio Tamale as he faces challenges, emphasizing teamwork and learning from past mistakes.

    The Canberra Times

Canberra Raiders fullback Kaeo Weekes knows all too well what it's like when things don't exactly go to plan under a high ball.

The fullback copped some criticism at the start of last year for his in-game errors before a huge turnaround in form saw him regain his confidence and play a pivotal role in the Raiders claiming the minor premiership.

In the Green Machine's 2026 NRL campaign, winger Savelio Tamale now finds himself in the hot seat after some error-strewn games

But Weekes believes his teammate will respond to the challenge ahead after Tamale requested coach Ricky Stuart drop him to NSW Cup to build some form and work his way back to first grade.

Raiders winger Savelio Tamale voluntarily moves to NSW Cup to regain form and confidence after a recent performance.

    Zero Tackle

Raiders star Savelio Tamale has reached out to head coach Ricky Staurt to be dropped to NSW Cup to reclaim his spark and to get back to his brilliant-best after the side's win in Perth on Saturday.

A unique scenario where Tamale pulled up short just before scoring a long-range try spearheaded it, with many speculating if it was a showboating effort, or whether he just accidentally stumbled and almost bombed a 4-pointer.

Turns out the gifted winger just needs to reignite his kindle, with him and Stuart coming to the agreement that for the short-term success of the Raiders, it's best for the team if he goes back to NSW Cup to help regain confidence.

It is a courageous call from the young Dragons junior and shows great maturity to make a selfless decision like this.
