Controversial knock ons, hip drop calls under the microscope from NRL blunder round | The Tackle

Referees faced backlash over inconsistent officiating, with controversial calls leaving fans frustrated during the weekend's matches.

From dodgy knock calls to inconsistency in officiating the hip drop - it's been an unhappy weekend for referees and the video bunker.

A number of head scratching calls left fans as confused as they were frustrated. On Sunday, the bunker was under the spotlight yet again after a try to Canberra's Xavier Savage was given the green light despite replays showing Simi Sasagi had touched the ball in the lead-up.

The touch from Sasagi appeared to send the ball floating forward.

While, the bunker can't rule on a forward pass it can rule on whether a touch constitutes a knock-on.

"That's not a try, it has been propelled forward by Sasagi and goes into the hands of Savage, yes his back is facing the tryline but … the ball touches Sasagi and is propelled forward," Cooper Cronk said on Fox League.
