Damien Cook and Clint Gutherson urge St George Illawarra to appoint Dean Young as head coach after recent performances.
Senior Dragons players Damien Cook and Clint Gutherson have called on management to look "right in front of them" and appoint Dean Young as the club's next head coach.
The influential duo have backed the interim mentor at St George Illawarra for prompting change at the club, but also after the NRL sent an apology letter for two crucial refereeing calls that went against the Dragons in their 24-16 loss to the Raiders last weekend.
St George Illawarra hierarchy is refusing to be rushed through the delicate process of appointing their next head coach with interim coach Young and Rabbitohs assistant coach Ben Hornby the two frontrunners for the role.
"I'd like to think it was about consistency and connection and whether the team is heading in the right direction,'' Cook said, when asked if he felt management was looking at wins or losses, or the team's overall performance.
"Obviously we haven't had many wins this year, but I'd like to say that over the last month, especially the last two back-to-back games, we're really finding our DNA and how we defend, but it's about us consistently doing that on the field.
