‘He was 19, but looked 50’: The Sharks cult hero with a nickname for the ages

Paul Gallen nicknamed Tom Hazelton "40-20" for looking much older than his actual age. Hazelton to start due to Sharks' injury crisis.

The Sydney Morning Herald

Cronulla legend Paul Gallen gave Tom Hazelton the nickname "40-20" - because he looked 40 when he was only 20 years old.

"And even when I gave him that nickname, he was only 19 but actually looked 50," Gallen said.

Hazelton is the Cronulla cult hero who sends fans wild every time he gets ready to take the field or trots off after a handy stint in the middle.

But with the Sharks facing a major injury crisis in their forward stocks - six players with a combined 610 games of NRL experience are unavailable for Sunday's clash at PointsBet Stadium against Canberra's monster pack - Hazelton will start for the first time in his career.
