The Australian

Hudson Young is flying to Papua New Guinea on Wednesday morning in the strongest sign yet the embattled Raiders star is ready to sign a $3.6 million tax-free deal with the Chiefs.

This masthead can reveal Young will travel to Port Moresby with PNG football boss Michael Chammas as the Chiefs ramp up their recruitment drive in the November 1 free-market frenzy.

Revelations Young has finally agreed to travel to PNG is evidence the NSW Origin forward is keen to join the Chiefs on a deal that would make him the richest back-rower in rugby league.

Well-placed sources say Chammas is currently on a recruitment drive in Sydney. The Chiefs head of football will link with Young on Wednesday morning and fly to PNG for a tour of the league-mad nation aimed at making the Raiders hitman Chief 008.

Young's contract machinations have raged for months and PNG's pursuit of the 28-year-old has been complicated by the saga surrounding the NRL's notional value of the Raiders ace.
