Brisbane Broncos star forward Patrick Carrigan will be sitting out the club's preliminary final after he opted to accept an early guilty plea concerning a Grade 2 careless high tackle.

This incident stemmed from a tackle during Sunday afternoon's game against Canberra, which resulted in Carrigan being sent to the sin bin for his actions against Morgan Smithies, a middle forward for Canberra. Had he chosen to contest the charge at the judiciary, he risked missing not only the preliminary final but potentially the grand final as well.

In addition, Reece Walsh faced two fines, while players from the Canterbury Bulldogs, Penrith Panthers, and Canberra Raiders also experienced financial penalties following the opening round of finals matches.

After a six-week layoff due to a PCL injury, Reece Walsh returned to the field determined to make every moment count and to fully embrace his potential in football.

Walsh suffered the injury during the first tackle of his team's Round 7 match against the Warriors. Despite the injury, he played through the game, ultimately confirming the injury through post-match scans. However, upon his return in Round 14, Walsh made an immediate impact in the Broncos' decisive 44-14 victory over the Titans, scoring two tries and assisting on another. This performance propelled the team from 11th place on the ladder to a top-four finish.
