  • Fans believed in a green fever dream. Then it was so cruelly ripped away

Emotions ran high after a heartbreaking rugby league match, leaving fans unable to cope.

    The Canberra Times

Scream if you need to. Shake your head if you have to. Cry if you really want to.

Sport is cruel. Rugby league is a bastard for making the seven or eight-year-old boy behind us cry after one of the most unbelievable, remarkable, controversial and heartbreaking games most of us have ever seen.

Raiders fans won't sleep well on Sunday night, and they'll still be shaking their heads when they turn up to work on Monday morning. That's if they turn up to work, because anyone who had to endure that sort of emotional rollercoaster deserves the whole week off.

Brisbane's Carrigan and Walsh faced disciplinary scrutiny after being sin-binned during the finals match.

Abdo Considers Sunday Preliminary Final Shake-Up

NRL considers Sunday preliminary finals for family-friendly scheduling, pending location and ratings evaluation.

    LeagueNews.co

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo has indicated that the league will explore the possibility of hosting a preliminary final on a Sunday. This concept, which was last implemented in 2005, could lead to a departure from the traditional Friday and Saturday night scheduling in favor of a family-friendly Sunday afternoon match.

The decision will likely hinge on the location of the game and the television ratings from the Sunday afternoon Week 1 qualifying final featuring the Canberra Raiders against the Brisbane Broncos. Abdo, in conversation with The Daily Telegraph, acknowledged this option as they aim for a distinct presence separate from the AFL while enhancing the experience for fans.

"We'll look at it all and assess it after this weekend," Abdo stated in the publication. "We're always looking at ways to improve."
