Since the injury, the 33-year-old has been in a moon boot, and the team's hopes hinge on his recovery for Sunday's match against Brisbane. Earlier, Papalii was among ten players rested by coach Ricky Stuart during Canberra's recent loss to the Dolphins. As a precaution, he will be inactive in training leading up to Saturday's captain's run.

If Papalii is unable to participate, Stuart has the option of calling on Trey Mooney or Matty Nicholson. Nicholson, who displayed exceptional form before an ankle injury, has been waiting in reserve grade since his return last month.

Canberra enforcer Josh Papalii is in serious doubt for the Raiders' qualifying final against Brisbane after suffering an ankle injury at training.

The prop forward was placed in moon boot after rolling his ankle on Monday and will be monitored ahead of the minor premiers' first finals game at GIO Stadium on Sunday.

Papalii is expected to be named in the team on Tuesday but the Raiders will not take any risks with the 33-year-old given they have the double chance in finals and plenty of forward depth.

The prop has been in stunning form for the Raiders this year, leading to the club offering him a one-year contract extension to finish his career in Canberra.

It's understood Papalii is now in major doubt for this Sunday's game with the Broncos and needed to be helped from the field, unable to put any weight on the ankle.

It's believed he will be named for Sunday's clash with the Broncos, but will rely on being able to train on Saturday during the side's captain's run to be able to take to the field.
