  • Finals Hopes Heat Up for Roosters

Rabbitohs, Raiders calls put finals heat on Roosters

Cameron Murray returns for Souths, while Raiders rest players, impacting Roosters' finals hopes.

South Sydney captain Cameron Murray is set to make his one and only appearance of the season, while 10 key players from the Canberra Raiders will be rested in their Round 27 fixture against the Dolphins, which could significantly affect the finals hopes of the Sydney Roosters.

The Rabbitohs are scheduled to face the Roosters at Allianz Stadium on Friday night. Despite Souths facing elimination from finals contention, Murray is eager to compete against their long-standing rivals after recovering from an Achilles injury that has kept him sidelined since February.

A victory for the Roosters would secure their place in the top eight; however, should Souths win instead, Trent Robinson's team will have to wait for the outcome of the Sunday match between the Dolphins and Raiders at Kayo Stadium to discover their finals fate.

In Round 27 of the 2025 NRL season, numerous players are set to make their debuts as teams start strategizing for the upcoming finals. With the postseason looming, clubs are making deliberate decisions about which players to rest prior to the knockout rounds.

In a surprising turn of events, the Broncos have stood down a prominent player due to a violation of team standards. Meanwhile, a significant number of debutants have been named across various teams for the final round of the regular season.

The Melbourne Storm, Canberra Raiders, Penrith Panthers, and New Zealand Warriors have all opted to rest at least one of their key players. The Panthers, however, have brought back most players who were sidelined in the previous week's matches.

Gehamat Shibasaki was dropped from Brisbane for violating team standards after his Origin debut.

    Wide World of Sports

Rugby league journeyman Gehamat Shibasaki has gone from earning a stunning State of Origin debut with Queensland to being dropped by Brisbane coach Michael Maguire within months - and "a breach of Broncos team standards" is the reason.

Shibasaki has been punted for Brisbane's clash with Melbourne at Suncorp Stadium on Thursday night, in which the Broncos will be aiming to lock up a spot in the top four with a win.

"This follows a breach of Broncos team standards, which has been dealt with internally," the Broncos said.
