A casual gathering outside a corner shop turned concerning upon noticing a man with a machete, highlighting the tension beneath a seemingly normal atmosphere.
It wasn't until I saw the machete that I started to worry.
There would've been about 50 people standing around outside the corner shop - hanging out, chatting, nothing sinister.
It seemed to just be a gathering place at the end of the working day.
But it was hard not to keep looking at the guy leaning against the wall casually holding his "bush knife", as the Papua New Guineans call them.
