Teenager Joey Walsh will make his NRL starting debut for Manly against Penrith after Jamal Fogarty's injury, facing Nathan Cleary.

Kieran Foran has declared teenager Joey Walsh ready to start as an NRL half after Jamal Fogarty was ruled out of Manly's bumper clash against Penrith with a groin injury.

Walsh will on Sunday evening be handed one of the toughest starting debuts in the game, set to go head-to-head with Nathan Cleary at CommBank Stadium.

The Sea Eagles had given Fogarty until Saturday captain's run to prove his fitness and are hopeful he will face Brisbane next week after limping off late against Parramatta.

The 19-year-old Walsh is viewed as Manly's future, with the former Australian schoolboys rugby union representative playing 19 minutes off the bench on debut in Daly Cherry-Evans' farewell game at the end of last season.
