A host of NRL stars have raised concerns about the explosion of set restarts and relentless pace of the game in a face-to-face meeting with Peter V'landys and the NRL, increasing scrutiny on how the game will be played beyond this year.

Sunday Serve can reveal a number of players - including current and former State of Origin representatives - attended a meeting in Sydney this week in which the contentious expansion of the six-again rule was discussed.

The timing of the meeting was significant with V'landys in the middle of high-powered talks to deliver the NRL a record broadcast deal, and Origin players wading through their most taxing part of the season.

But after two of the highest-profile stars in the game - Melbourne duo Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes - used their own podcast to lash the rule changes this year, players have now relayed feedback to rugby league's powerbrokers.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart has also been critical of the changes.
