We love the mighty Canberra Raiders
The Canberra Raiders, as reported by raiders.com.au, suffered a 42-14 defeat to the Manly Sea Eagles in the NRL Indigenous Round at GIO Stadium Canberra.
The hosts started strong, putting pressure on the Sea Eagles' goal line early on thanks to a dropped bomb by Tom Trbojevic.
Elliot Whitehead, the Raiders' skipper, was the first to score with a try off a Jack Wighton short pass that put him through a gap in the Manly defence.
It was the battle within the battle that elevated Sunday's clash, with five players eyeing State of Origin I before kick-off at Canberra Stadium.
For NSW, it was Hudson Young, Tom and Jake Trbojevic that had their hearts set on a Blues jersey before both Origin teams are to be named on Monday.
Young found himself in the thick of the action with 106 run metres, but had his impact hurt by a stint in the sin bin.
Manly captain Daly Cherry-Evans couldn't resist offering referee Gerard Sutton some free advice during his side's clash against the Raiders in Canberra on Sunday.
Early in second half of the Round 12 contest, Sea Eagles forward Haumole Olakau'atu was penalised for a dangerous tackle on Canberra's Emre Guler.
The Raiders prop landed on his shoulder after Olakau'atu lifted a leg in the tackle, prompting Sutton to award a penalty. Olakau'atu and Cherry-Evans protested the decision as heavy boos echoed around the Canberra venue.
