Canberra Raiders youngster Ethan Strange has pressed his claims for a starting halves spot with a standout showing in the team's final pre-season trial, however he faces a nervous wait after being put on report for a dangerous tackle.

The halfback led an undermanned Raiders side to a 14-8 half-time lead before a stacked North Queensland Cowboys took control in the second 40 in front of 6048 fans at Seiffert Oval.

Cowboys winger Kyle Feldt crossed for a hat-trick in his side's 36-26 victory. The result denied Canberra the title of Pre-Season Challenge champions.

It's the site of countless iconic moments for the Raiders through the glory years in the 1980s before they made Bruce their permanent home ground in 1990.

On Sunday afternoon the Green Machine return to the club's spiritual home for their second pre-season trial against the North Queensland Cowboys, with a chance to claim their first bit of first grade silverware since the 1994 premiership.

Parramatta Eels and U19s NSW halfback Ethan Sanders is in hot demand, with several clubs interested in attaining his services for the future.

Currently at the Eels, the Canberra Raiders emerged last year as one of the clubs interested in securing his signature. This has now been confirmed by their CEO, Don Furner, but instead of signing him immediately, they have to be patient in their pursuit.

Likened to Cooper Cronk, Sanders is coming off his first pre-season with the Eels after a successful junior career that saw him earn U19s NSW honours, guiding the Eels to the SG Ball Cup title...
