The NRL is currently engulfed in a storm just days before the league announces the full 2024 season draw.

Reports from news.com.au have revealed that a brouhaha has erupted over Channel 9's decision to snub Canberra and Newcastle for the opening round of the 2024 NRL season.

The drama continues to swirl behind the scenes as the league prepares to announce the full draw for the upcoming season on Monday.

According to News Corp, Channel 9 expressed its concerns to the NRL on Thursday, pushing for a late change to the fixture in order to remove the Raiders and Knights from the Round 1 Thursday night match.

The Raiders will face a reasonable level of difficulty in their first five games of the season. While they will only play two top eight teams, they will have the added challenge of playing three of those games on the road. The Green Machine will play at home only once during the opening month of the 2024 NRL Season.

Canberra Raiders first five games of NRL Season 2024

    1. Knights (A)
    2. Tigers (H)
    3. Warriors (A)
    4. Sharks (A)
    5. Eels (H)

Facing the Knights, Warriors, and Sharks on the road, the Raiders will need to bring their A-game to secure wins in these challenging matchups, especially across The Ditch in New Zealand against a resurgent Warriors outfit.

The home games against the Tigers and Eels could serve as important opportunities for the team to establish a strong foundation and gain valuable points in the early stages of the season. The Green Machine will surely look to make Bruce "GIO" Stadium a daunting prospect for visiting sides with more clashes to occur at their home fortress later in the season.

Wither on the vine? Wither from Channel 9 more like.

If the Canberra Raiders aren't opening their 2024 NRL season with a Thursday night blockbuster against the Newcastle Knights then coach Ricky Stuart would be within his rights to boycott the broadcaster.

Not only because of how passionate he is about the capital, but how angry he gets about Canberra constantly being given the rough end of the pineapple.
