The NRL has announced its pre-season challenge schedule, revealing 16 games will be played starting from February 15.

The pre-season challenge will begin with the Bulldogs and Storm facing off at Belmore Sports Ground on Thursday February 15.

The competition will use the same format as the 2023 season, with $100,000 in prize money up for grabs and bonus points for tries, line breaks and offloads.

Each team will be allowed to name 28 players per week, giving coaches a chance to prepare their teams ahead of the 2024 season's launch in Las Vegas.

Canberra Raiders assistant and New Zealand Kiwis head coach Michael Maguire is expected to have made a call on whether he will take over the NSW Blues job by the end of next week.

The impending decision for the NSWRL and Maguire, while widely expected, has led to plenty of speculation for both the Canberra Raiders and New Zealand national side.

Maguire, who was sacked by the Wests Tigers in the middle of the 2022 season, spent the 2023 campaign as the right-hand man to Ricky Stuart in the nation's capital at the Canberra Raiders, while also continuing his role as head coach of the Kiwis.

The Canberra Raiders will get an early shot at finals revenge against the Newcastle Knights. Or so they thought.

Canberra was set to start its 2024 NRL season against the Knights in Newcastle in a round one Thursday night blockbuster on March 7.

But Channel 9 has reportedly thrown their toys out of the cot as a result, preferring to open with Parramatta against Canterbury instead - two teams that failed to make the finals this year.
