Raiders star Josh Papali’i set to shun Super League... but twist leaves door open for rival NRL clubs

Josh Papali'i is reconsidering a Super League move, open to NRL offers instead.

    Fox League

Raiders veteran Josh Papali'i is having second thoughts about a move to the Super League, and instead is "open to offers" from rival NRL clubs, it has been revealed.

"He was linked to St Helens and I'm not sure if it's because of his form, his Origin recall, whatever the case may be, but he's made it clear to those close to him that he doesn't really want to go to the Super League.

Papali'i had been linked to a move to St Helens at the end of this season, when he comes off contract.

But now he is likely to remain in the NRL, and it's a turn of events that has caught the Raiders off guard, according to The Daily Telegraph's Michael Carayannis.

"I think everyone just assumed Josh Papali'i was going to go to the Super League at the end of the season," Carayannis said on NRL 360 on Wednesday night.

“Still negotiating”: Papalii’s agent confirms Raiders, England discussions

Josh Papalii's future at Canberra Raiders is uncertain, with potential interest from Newcastle Knights.

    Zero Tackle

Josh Papalii's agent has confirmed he will speak with the Canberra Raiders at some stage over his client's future.

The prop is off-contract at the end of 2025 and had been resigned to leaving the club, and likely the NRL at the end of the season with the English Super League his most likely destination.

The Newcastle Knights were the first team believed to be interested in the prop's services, and while a formal offer hasn't been made, it still could come if the club lose Tyson Frizell and Dane Gagai at the end of this year.

The experienced duo have offers on the table from Newcastle, but are no guarantee of signing them.
