Canberra Raiders champion Jarrod Croker will retire at the end of the NRL season, completing his 300-plus game career.

The 32-year-old told his teammates on Thursday he wouldn't seek to play on in 2024, having failed to meet the criteria in his contract to trigger a one-year extension.

Croker has been a first-team regular after being recalled by the Raiders in round six, but injured a hamstring in recent weeks and is still trying to prove his fitness and break back into the side.

Canberra coach Ricky Stuart laid the boot into his Raiders
after a dismal performance in their 48-2 thrashing at the hands of the Melbourne Storm.

The result leaves Canberra's finals hopes on thin ice, and Stuart couldn't hide his frustration in a curt press conference that lasted just over a minute.

He began: It wasn't tough at all. It was just embarrassing. (I'm) absolutely embarrassed.

Melbourne NRL coach Craig Bellamy says his side drew a line in the sand before a 48-2 smashing of Canberra which left counterpart Ricky Stuart labelling the Raiders' performance as "really, really embarrassing" and "crap".

The Storm jumped back inside the top four and effectively ended the Raiders' hopes of a double chance in the finals, piling on nine unanswered tries - all from different scorers.

The thrashing could have even more dire consequences for the Raiders, who are just a game inside the top eight with their woeful points differential weighing them down further.
