Raiders legend Laurie Daley has declared the Green Machine can take out this year's NRL premiership.

Canberra currently sits fifth in a logjam at the top of the ladder and this season looms as their best chance in years to win their first title since 1994. With star five-eighth Jack Wighton departing at the end of the year, the squad is desperate to send the veteran out on a high.

Penrith and Brisbane are two points clear on 28 points, ahead of the Sharks, Storm and the Raiders on 26. The Raiders have been hurt by their inferior for and against and it could prove costly in the race for a top-four finish.

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart was left with plenty to review during the bye week, with a league legend suggesting it might be time to drop stalwart Jarrod Croker.

Stuart was slightly lost for answers after Canberra beat the Dragons 36-26, struggling to explain what went wrong in his side's second-half defensive collapse.

Green Machine fans questioned if round 19 might've marked the end of Croker's glittering NRL career after his poor defensive display alongside back-up five-eighth Matt Frawley, who was thrust into the starting side from 18th man before kick-off.

Canberra's habit of triumphing in chaotic encounters is leaving coach Ricky Stuart frustrated, after a 36-26 win over St George Illawarra that would have been much more convincing but for a Junior Amone-inspired comeback from the Dragons.
