The new Te Kaha Stadium cost $537 million, significantly less than the ACT government's $2.9 billion estimate for Canberra's venue.

The true cost of building a state-of-the-art stadium with a roof has been revealed, and the final figure makes a mockery of the ACT government's $2.9 billion claim around a Civic venue.

The cost of the new Te Kaha Stadium in Christchurch has been finalised at $537,162,124 AUD, which means the multi-purpose venue was completed $21,769,999 under budget and five weeks ahead of schedule.

The same company behind the Christchurch venue - which has been sold-out for Super Rugby six times and the NRL once since opening in April - wants to deliver a similar stadium in Canberra's city centre.
