The Raiders offered Hudson Young a $4.4 million deal, but he may earn more with the tax-break offer from the PNG Chiefs.
The Raiders have done everything they can to lock down Hudson Young beyond next season, including offering a four-year, $4.4 million deal to secure his services long term.
The Raiders' offer is countered by a smaller deal worth $950,000 from the PNG Chiefs starting in 2028.
But with the Chiefs able to offer a significant tax break to players, the PNG offer would mean Young would take home far more with the Chiefs than with the Raiders.
Canberra has responded by saying their $1.1 million-per-season offer should be placed on the Chiefs' salary cap, a figure PNG has balked at.
