Star prop inks new deal in huge Raiders boost ahead of finals blockbuster

Josh Papalii signs a one-year deal with Canberra Raiders, despite injury concerns for finals.

    Fox League

Josh Papalii is set to continue his NRL career in the nation's capital, with the resurgent Raiders legend inking a one-year deal with Canberra.

Heading into 2025, the smart money was on Papalii either retiring at the end of the season or heading to the Super League.

However, the most-capped Raider of all time enjoyed a terrific 2025 campaign for the table-topping Raiders, which included a recall into the Origin arena.

Papalli's new deal has been announced as the prop is under an injury cloud for this Sunday's qualifying final against the Broncos.

An ankle injury has Papalii in doubt to take his place for the blockbuster.

Via a club-issued statement, Papalii says it's an "honour" to stay a Raider for one more season.

    The Canberra Times

Canberra have re-signed veteran prop Josh Papalii ahead of the club's high-stakes finals clash against Brisbane.

Papalii, who has rekindled his early-career best this season to become a key cog in the Raiders' premiership push, signed a one-year extension until the end of 2026, the club announced on Friday.

The announcement scuttled rumours that Papalii, the club's most-capped player, could be set for a Super League shift at season's end.

Payne Haas values loyalty, love, and respect, aspiring for a long-term career with Brisbane Broncos.

    The Canberra Times

Loyalty, love and respect are the qualities Brisbane prop Payne Haas holds dear and why he has become the man he is today.

It's the Samoan way and why he idolises Canberra prop Josh Papalii, who shares the same heritage.

It's taken the 25-year-old time to shine on and off field. Wrong turns hampered him at the start of his stellar career but the Broncos stuck with him. He, in turn, intends to stick with them, win a premiership and stay at the club long-term after previously rejecting offers elsewhere, including from Melbourne.
