  • Ricky Stuart's Blow as Young Star Joins Panthers

Crushing blow for Ricky Stuart after young star leaves Canberra to sign with Penrith Panthers

Keahn Skipps leaves Canberra Raiders for Penrith Panthers, depleting the team's playmaker options.

The Canberra Raiders and coach Ricky Stuart have suffered another setback as promising young halfback Keahn Skipps has left the club to sign with the Penrith Panthers. The departure follows Jamal Fogarty's recent signing with Manly, further depleting the Raiders' playmaker options.

As reported by The Daily Telegraph, the team was informed that Skipps was feeling homesick and had requested a release several times this year. Originally from the Gold Coast, Stuart had anticipated that Skipps would sign with a Queensland club instead of departing to another New South Wales team.

Despite the Raiders initially denying multiple requests for a release, they ultimately relented. However, Skipps opted for a three-year deal with the Panthers rather than returning to his home state.

    LeagueNews.co

Parramatta Eels coach Jason Ryles has addressed reports regarding Bailey Simonsson, who requested an immediate release from the team earlier this week.

Simonsson, one of the first players Ryles extended at the end of last year, has been a reliable contributor to the club's backline over the past four seasons.

Previously with the Canberra Raiders, the injury-stricken outside back recently reached his 100-game milestone but has played only two matches in first grade since Round 10 due to being overlooked in recent weeks.

Gold Coast faces South Sydney, crucial for the wooden spoon; Latrell Mitchell returns for Rabbitohs.

    The Canberra Times

Gold Coast host South Sydney in a clash that will go a long way towards deciding who gets the wooden spoon as Latrell Mitchell returns at centre for the Rabbitohs.

Sunday's fixture at Robina will feature two veteran coaches - Titans' Des Hasler and Rabbitohs' Wayne Bennett - who have not finished last in their stellar premiership careers as mentors.

Seven-time title winner Bennett did take out a wooden spoon while coaching Brothers in the Brisbane Rugby League in 1981, but has not had that ignominy since taking over with Don Furner as co-coach at Canberra in 1987.
