Chiefs coach Willie Peters defends tax perks while targeting a marquee halfback and pursuing Raiders' Hudson Young.

Chiefs coach Willie Peters has hit back at critics of PNG's tax-free perks as he targets a marquee halfback signing and confirmed his pursuit of Raiders star Hudson Young.

Peters was given a hero's welcome after being formally unveiled as the expansion club's foundation coach in his first trip to Papua New Guinea this week.

The Chiefs will unveil their logo and inaugural jersey in Port Moresby on Wednesday after New Zealand Rugby failed in an initial court bid to block their naming.

With seven players signed and a lucrative sponsorship stable growing, the Chiefs are coming together ahead of their 2028 NRL Premiership launch.

Journeyman playmaker Sean O'Sullivan is expected to be confirmed as 'Chief 008', but Peters has set his sights on a big halfback fish to partner inaugural signing Jarome Luai.
