The Melbourne Storm will hold its inaugural mental health round when the Canberra Raiders visit AAMI Park on June 21.

The initiative has been introduced to spread awareness surrounding mental health and bring emotional vulnerability to light, and the strength to speak out when struggling.

The NewsWire is revealing that there will be free mental health check-ins, fundraising and pins available to purchase, where all proceeds will be donated to Beyond Blue, an independent Australian not-for-profit organisation.

"We know that when it comes to men's sport and men in general, we're tough on the field. But for us, the importance of this round is saying that we're tackling tough together," Storm chief executive Justin Rodski said to the NewsWire.

Gabriella Savage, an 18-year-old Raiders player, represents emerging NRLW talent alongside other promising young stars.

    The Australian

The family bloodlines in Canberra are about to get even stronger with Gabriella Savage, the little sister of Xavier, one of the next generation of teen stars to break into the NRLW.

The 18-year-old speedy outside back is a player of the future at the Raiders, captaining the Tarsha Gale Cup side this season and earning a promotion to the NRLW team on a development deal.

She's a part of a stack of young talent flooding into the women's game who have had the advantage of consistent game time and respresentative coaching through their junior years, and now ready to lead the next wave of talent.

Halle Barrett, daughter of St George Illawarra legend Trent Barrett, has just been promoted to a development contract at the Dragons, while Brian To'o's niece Freedom Crichton Ropati is also among the game's best young stars at Parramatta after winning back-to-back Tarsha Gale Cup titles.

Melbourne Storm launches inaugural mental health round on June 21, highlighting NRL players' struggles and promoting awareness and support.

    The Australian

The mental side of footy had Josh King on his knees, anxiety caused Alec MacDonald to get severe stomach pains during games, and depression took a hold of Will Warbrick after he tried to bottle it up for a year.

These are just some of the stories NRL players are dealing with, and it's why the Melbourne Storm has launched its inaugural mental health round to "tackle tough together".

It's the first initiative of its kind in rugby league in Melbourne and will take centre stage on June 21 when the Storm host the Raiders in round 16 at AAMI Park.

Storm old boys will march to the ground to raise mental health awareness, mental health checks will be available for fans, and pins will be sold with all proceeds donated to Beyond Blue.

"We know that when it comes to men's sport and men in general, we're tough on the field. But for us, the importance of this round is saying that we're tackling tough together," Storm chief executive Justin Rodski said.
