Canberra urges Hudson Young to extend his contract amid interest from PNG Chiefs before he can negotiate with other clubs.

Canberra is urging powerhouse second-rower Hudson Young to extend his contract as the club aims to fend off the enticing offer from the PNG Chiefs.

Young's contract expires at the end of 2027, and he will be eligible to negotiate with other NRL clubs starting November 1. The Raiders are anxious to secure the NSW State of Origin star before that date.

Meanwhile, reports indicate that the Chiefs are keen on signing the 28-year-old ahead of their first season in 2028.

Raiders CEO Don Furner is committed to doing everything possible to retain Young before his agent meets with Canberra officials later this week.

Broncos team news: Hayze Perham set to replace Reece Walsh, secures new deal for 2027

Hayze Perham replaces injured Reece Walsh for the Broncos, securing his future with a deal through 2027.

    The Australian

Brisbane utility Hayze Perham is set to answer an SOS to replace injured superstar Reece Walsh after being handed a new deal by the Broncos.

Walsh's season-ending ankle injury has opened the door for Perham to challenge for the No.1 jumper for Friday night's clash against the Raiders in Canberra.

The 27-year-old was outstanding deputising for Walsh earlier this season, producing a near man-of-the-match performance in Brisbane's 32-12 belting of the Bulldogs in round 8.

The Broncos believe Perham is such a handy Plan B option to step in for Walsh they have secured the former Bulldogs fullback for the 2027 season.

Perham, who has played 39 first grade games since his debut for the Warriors in 2019, had an existing two-year deal with the Broncos with an option in Brisbane's favour for next season.

    Canberra Daily

An emotional Josh Papali'i will remain a one-club player after the Canberra Raiders' veteran enforcer announced he will retire at the end of the NRL season.

Ahead of Canberra's final home game against Brisbane on Friday, the Raiders on Monday unveiled a mural inside GIO Stadium of Papali'i's famous 2019 preliminary final try, which earned the Green Machine a long-awaited grand final berth.

The unveiling of the artwork only made Papali'i, who was already fighting to hold back tears, even more emotional.

The 34-year-old admitted the decision to leave the club that handed him his NRL debut in 2011 was tough, but he conceded an injury-riddled 2026 season had taken a toll on his body.
