    And so the storylines echo between the last Canberra Raiders crowned Simply the Best, and the ones sounding the Viking horn in 2025 like they'll pillage and plunder akin to eras of old.

    The Reardon family tragically lost two sons recently, including their youngest, Lachie, a Raiders fan.

    The Reardon family of Holt has suffered enough. Two sons died within weeks of each other earlier this year. Now they feel like they have lost a little more of their youngest son.

    Lachie, 23, was a mad Raiders fan who wore his Green Machine wrestling cape whenever the team played.

    Kirsten Tapine has always been a force to be reckoned with - just ask her husband, Canberra skipper Joe Tapine, and Raiders coach Ricky Stuart.

    Both have been met by the strength of her convictions and left with slightly battered egos, but on each occasion have emerged better men for it.

    Ten years ago Kirsten gave Tapine, 31, an ultimatum - stop gambling or she's walking out on him.

    "I had a gambling addiction," Tapine said.
